Colorado and Oregon State in OT
WBB TV: UConn vs Oregon ESPN2 2:00pm today
So Oregon State pulls it out at the end of overtime with a trey. I think part of Colorado's defensive intensity has to do with other team not adjusting well to elevation. A little different when they play on the road.
Meanwhile, the Pac 12 network shows its poor production values again, when the after game interview with Rueck disappeared in a sea of soundless logos. Before that, the sound mixing had the crowd noise so high you could barely understand the announcers.

I put the game on pause when Oregon got up by 17. I did come back to watch the rest, but the final score was old news by then.
Oregon was up as much as 24 before they took their foot off the gas in the 4th.

hmmm...even without azzi fudd and paige bueckers, they have a roster overflowing with top recruits: #2 westbrook, #5 nelson-odada, #1 williams, #5 ducharme, that's 4 top 5 recruits. and that's not counting #15 amari deberry and #23 edwards. geno is such a great coach but he can't dominate with 4 top-5 recruits on the floor? he gets to complain about missing bueckers?

Missing 3 former #1 overall recruits due to injuries (2020 BUECKERS and 2021 AZZI) or covid protocol (2018 WILLIAMS) will obviously do that.
But the silver lining is that seniors SG WILLIAMS and post NELSON-ODADA have upped their games while 6'2 freshman SG/SF DUCHARME has become their primary go-to offense in star player BUECKERS' absence since mid-Dec. So when AZZI returns in early Feb and finally BUECKERS in mid- to late Feb, UConn might be more dangerous than ever before, especially during the NCAA Tournament, where they are predicted to be a regional 3-seed or 4-seed in what essentially is a homecourt Bridgeport Regional.
An interesting side note is that despite being down to 8 players for the Oregon game, Geno still only used 6 players while totally relegating post players DEBERRY and GABRIEL to the bench. With GABRIEL I'm not that surprised, but 6'5 freshman DEBERRY is a 5-star recruit (ranked as high as #3 overall in the Class of 2021) who showed flashes of brilliance in the few games she played for UConn this season.

ESPN spent almost as much screen time showing Bueckers and Fudd on the sidelines as they did UConn players on the court. Really annoying, but definitely confirms where their alliances are. Almost like making an excuse for UConn's performance as it was happening.

What I thought was telling was the commentary when they came back after halftime. Something like....
"What does UConn need to do in the second half to get back in this game...."
"They need to have a more effective offense....."

Total blowout. Oregon's shooters and bigs are a pretty tough matchup for UConn. PaoPao pretty much owned them. Agree with others - our game up there is going to be tough.
Takeaway Bueckers, Williams, and Fudd and UConn is really not very good. A bunch of big slow players who are good at banging and making layups. They are wayyyy better with Bueckers on the floor because she makes all of them better through her creating and passing.
Other than Washington, Cal, and maybe USC, I think the the rest of the P12 would win on their home court against the UConn team that was on the floor today.

I don't know about beating U Conn for the other Pac 12 teams, but putting USC in a class with UW and Cal may be underestimating them. Don't forget, they beat Arizona. Basically, though the rest of the country doesn't credit it, this is a very tough conference, and we can't overlook anyone.

Did you notice Oregon’s first offensive possession? Geno stood with his toes on the sideline. An Oregon 3-pt shooter got the ball right in front of him and shot. He didn’t, he wouldn’t move. I can’t see how he wasn’t in contact with her.

While I do agree that if Uconn gets healthy, they will be a different team the end of February/March.
