OSU 21, UCLA 21, bottom of 9th, one out. UCLA has scored 9 runs in bottom of ninth. Game is ~5 hours old. And now looking at extra innings and/or a second game...
Stanford Baseball TO THE CWS!

Both teams’ pitching should be running on fumes tomorrow, with or without a second game.

RUFKM? UCLA, down 21-12 bottom 9, has put up 9 runs to tie the game!

Beavers took the lead 22-21, now UCLA has runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. This is like Tee ball for 6 year olds!
Ooh boy, Oregon State did intentional BB to load bases. Then a balk!
This will likely mean another game. Their collective arms will be toast.
Just like that, UCLA hits a no out, two on HR. 25-22.

That was pretty much sealed by the sweep of U$C. That got the RPI up to #6 and made us champs of the Pac 12.
One win was some insurance.
Of interest, Stanford is now up to #3 in the RPI, behind Tennessee and Oregon State. Stanford could end up as high as the #2 overall seed for the tournament, though I don't think it matters much where among the top 8 they end up.

I still don't know what I think about the move of Matthews to the bullpen.
On the one hand he doesn't really seem to be a closer/bullpen type. While he has a good arm overall, it's not overwhelming velocity. He walks a lot of guys, almost 1/2 per inning - not good when you come in to get your team out of a jam. It also often seems like it takes a little while to get going [e.g. he came in against OSU he walked three in a row and a wild pitch to let in 4 runs, then blanked them the rest of the way.]
And it's certainly not that he can't start and go along way - he's had 7 outings over 100 pitches.
However, much more importantly, it's worked. Since he's moved to the bullpen, Stanford has been on a tear.
The key thing seems to be flexibility. He's in the bullpen if needed for Friday/Saturday, but if not he's available to start or at least pitch most of the game on Sunday.

OSU is starting Kmatz. He's their #2 (Saturday) starter who hadn't pitched in the tournament so far. Presumably, without UCLA's crazy comeback, we would have seen Kmatz tomorrow.

UCLA has just taken a 7-6 lead in the top of the 7th in their battle of attrition vs. OSU.
In his in-game interview, UCLA coach John Savage said that Stanford "must be laughing" about what has gone on all afternoon and evening for the Beavs & Bruins.

Stanford fans spotted in the crowd with a sign reading: "We want extra innings".

10-1/2 hours, 62 runs, and 79 hits since they began play today, OSU walks off UCLA 8-7 in their second game.
Good thing that Stanford beat Arizona in the first game today. I don't know how they could have completed 4 games today given how the OSU-UCLA games went. Maybe curfew would have forced a game to be played tomorrow sometime before the 7pm championship game?
