Luis Matos is having a very good month. .297. With OPA around .880. 4 HRs. Good to see him finish strong.

Jim Bowden had his top 50 prospect list. Harrison 23, Luciano 46.  Most disappointing thing to me is Bowden indicated Luciano has below average speed and range.  Power no 1 attribute.

Bowden is a poor source to cite.  I stopped reading his blather sometime ago because his observations are consistently wrong.  

Keith Law is the best source to read regarding prospects.  His analysis of Joey Bart prior to the draft in which Bart was selected has proven to be spot on.  

As for Luciano, I have no doubt that he is going to be a star IF he can remain healthy.  He is on track for a 2024 debut.  Harrison has been touted by some as the best LH starter in the minors.  I expect him to reach the big leagues at some point next season.

There are three or four guys in the system that have great strikeout to walk ratios. There are plenty of arms so perhaps five or six among the sixty or so arms in the system have what it takes.

Don’t know about Matos but Poimares has raised his average about 60 points over the last six weeks. He, Matos, Toribio, McCray, Roby all have high strikeout rates. Kapler has been raving about Isan Diaz at Sacramento. Has a lower K rate than most of the other legitimate prospects. He has spent time on the taxi squad but hasn’t been promoted yet.

After reading about the new rule I can’t find anything about roster status of the two additions. Not clear if they have to be on the 40 man. So that could leave only Sacto players since Rodriquez is now there. If the Giants think they still have a chance (which is akin to Bobbbbbbb having a chance with Sophia Loren) they probably bring up Gonzalez and a pitcher.

Diaz pulled an oblique.  I think he’d have been called up otherwise.  I think the Sept call up rule stinks.  I get that teams were abusing the old system by calling up way too many.  But something like 5 sounds right to me.  And all teams should be allowed to call up one guy from AAA with 8 or more years of minor league experience.   Call it the Bull Durham rule.  I always liked it when a minor league lifer got that Sept call up so he’d have at least a moment in the bigs.

I think they could use an infusion of just about anything. Right now, there seems to be no "there there". Just the opposite of last year. If this is "regression to the mean" I certainly don't enjoy it.

Interesting article in The Athletic.  Rod Carew at a Hall of Fame dinner lit into Rob Manfred. His general theme - analytics are ruining baseball.  Which Manfred essentially agrees with but says you can’t do anything about it. Which is somewhat true.

Funny - at the time I was watching Tommy La Stella hit. Runner on first and they put on the shift against him. it. Its Tommy La Stella.  He doesn’t have much  power. Although he’s tried to add to his power so he’s swinging more with a “launch angle”.  But he has  most of the left side available. And what does he do – of course he’s swigging from the heels. He ended up walking. But I just kind of shook my head. I thought about how somebody like Rod Carew – a true artist with the bat - thinks looking at that.
