The non conference schedule
which already took into consideration majority of in- and out- transfers, Stanford will have
#1 South Carolina, #6 Tennessee and #25 Creighton in their OOC schedule,
plus I would consider both FGSU and Gonzaga as borderline Top 25 teams, as well.
I like that they have 5 games (Vanguard, SDSU, Pacific, Portland, Cal Poly) to tinker
and experiment with their various line-ups, most especially the urgency of their PG play,
before facing #1 South Carolina at home.

I think it's a solid non-conference schedule. Shouldn't be surprising that it's not quite as challenging last years.

No surprise we dropped that 2nd game to South Florida (which was playing its first game of the tournament).

I'll use the boxing analogy re. the non-conference schedule. A good heavyweight fighter easily defeats his first 5 opponents and then finds himself fighting 6'9 heavyweight champ Tyson Fury. When you look at our first 5 non-conference games, there is not one team with the possible exception of Portland who will give us any kind of challenge before we face South Carolina. We had the same problem last season before getting punched by Texas.

Our team is very experienced and we've played South Caroline with Aliyah Boston twice in the past two seasons. Our team knows what we are up against when playing them and our returning core is very solid. Not saying we can't or won't lose that game but I don't think our lack of a high quality non-conference game in the first 10 days of the season will really matter on November 20. Just my opinion. It's a long season. It's a November game. Keep things in a little perspective.

They play Maryland and Clemson, and while Maryland is a good team that is certainly better than the four we play, Clemson had a 10-21 record last year. We need the space to try out combinations and to settle our lineup, so more games is probably better than fewer to do that.

I agree with many of your points. I just believe that it's much better to make a statement early in the season and knock off the defending national champions than lose to them. If we lose and face them again in the NCAA's, they will have that psychological advantage.
By the way, I would love to be proven wrong regarding the 5 teams we play before SC (with a combined 54-84, 39%) winning percentage last season. I'd be ecstatic with a win on Nov. 20th.

It might be nice to see time for players who we might think now are say those we believe will be 10-15. Rest starters some probably won’t happened but would be nice
I don’t know if you go chalk talks stop and pop but for years it’s been hard to schedule some schools. They say no.

As the 'voice of unreason', one advantage of playing a light schedule goes to your point- playing time for multiple players; especially Betts. Yes, I would have liked to have seen a stronger schedule, but there is one team among the 5 that I do like us going up against- Portland (20-11/8-7 in the WCC) that has 6'6 Lucy Cochrane who led the nation in average blocked shots (3.9/game) and will now have 6'7 Maddi Condran, who redshirted her freshman season. Though they lost, they played a reasonably competitive game against us last season on the road.
Yes, been to many chalk talks and love them.
Hoping I'll still be here to watch that potentially epic game on 11/20 at Maples.

Bummer. Stanford goes to the Oregons, but they don't travel to the Bay Area.
Stanford does get Washington and WSU at home without the mid-winter trip to Seattle and Pullman.
Their chart was a bit confusing. It is actually the opposite. We get the Oregon teams at home only and get the Washington teams away only. The gray is the home on that chart.

Very happy the Oregon's are here. I see no problem going up to the Washington schools.
