"A rookie QB has never taken a team to a Super Bowl" is a fact. It is not a rule of nature that a rookie NFL QB can't do so.
Brock Purdy is not the type to be overwhelmed by whatever people call "pressure." He couldn't have possibly done what he has as a rookie NFL QB if he was. The playoffs may be more intense, but it's not like the defenses he has faced to date weren't throwing everything they had at him, and he's all of a sudden not going to be able to deal with what he sees in the playoffs. In fact, this is what he has demonstrated that most rookies struggle with - he sees things very well, trusts his eyes (based on a lot of experience), and makes sound, decisive decisions. Add to this his ability to maneuver to avoid pressure, find throwing lanes and open receivers, then deliver balls with accuracy, and you have, well, a very good QB, regardless of how much NFL experience he has. Nothing demonstrates his mental acuity more than the fact George Kittle had 7 TD catches in 6 games with Purdy and 4 in 10 games with Garoppolo.

No one here is saying Purdy won’t lead SF to the Super Bowl. However, the odds are against it happening this year. He does appear to be a different kinda guy but the playoffs are a very difficult environment. Even dominant regular season “champions” are vulnerable to a single misplay under the unrelenting pressure of the playoffs. I am hopeful SF can beat Seattle; however, until Purdy leads the 49ers to a playoff win, he hasn’t.

Thinking about what it will probably be like at the game tomorrow, I just remembered Big Game in 1966 in Berkeley when it poured the entire game (well, the entire day) and at the end of the game the players (I think both teams, but for sure our guys) were using the lake in mid-field as an enormous slip-n-slide. The good guys won, so it was worth the discomfort. I think.

Purdy ran a 4.84 40 at combine/pro day. Slow.
BUT he also ran a very quick 10 yards. Which makes sense. He has terrific feet and has shown quickness. Ability to extend. Which is more important than how fast a QB can run 40….
My biggest concern, especially on a day like today is hanging a throw. Particularly outside the numbers.
