Mahomes is a danger to himself and his team if not responsibly managed. I thought it insane for Reid to allow him back in the game. The Chiefs seemed to celebrate x-rays were negative, but confirmed he has a high ankle sprain, so not exactly a good thing. Trent Williams tried to play with a high ankle sprain in last year's NFC CG after suffering it the week before and said he regretted doing so, adding it took a month for it to heal after that game.
Mahomes will not be able to walk today and though staying off it for 7 days will allow swelling to subside, the ankle will not be healed and as soon as he starts running around, he will be limping again, unable to protect himself, unable to throw the ball as accurately as he must to win in the next two rounds. Sure, they can tape the ankle and shoot it up with whoever knows what pain killer, but he's going to be limited and more susceptible to worsening the current injury or sustaining another one. So what do the Chiefs want? Mahomes to be limited and get more damaged in the AFC CG, so he has no chance of playing in the Super Bowl? Or, do they want to let him rest for three weeks so if they make the Super Bowl, with their backup QB, he can play in it and be a lot more capable than he will be in an AFC CG?
The Chiefs are on the horns of quite a dilemma, and they will only make it worse by allowing Mahomes to have any say in whether he plays in the AFC CG. It should be 100% up to the doctors and medical people. Mahomes can't be trusted to make the best decision for himself or his team. He thinks he's Superman; thought he should continue playing on one leg and thinks he'll be OK to go in a week - crazy. It appears Mahomes overruled Chiefs medical personnel against the Jags. I mean what doctor would have seen him hobbling out there and not pulled him off the field if it was really their decision? As it was, the Chiefs were lucky the Jags were too inept to take advantage of getting to play them with such a compromised Mahomes. They won't be that lucky against Cincy or Buffalo.
