A chance to go undefeated against the Pac-2.

In retrospect, the Arizona game might be considered one, though at the time it seemed like a game to be upset about not winning given Karty's misses. Washington to me counts as one. Oregon was close, given the 14-6 halftime score, but the 28-0 second half wiped that out.
So Stanford has one moral victory for sure, one maybe moral victory, and three actual victories. So I could argue Stanford is actually 5-4 or 4-5 in terms of whether the game outcome was Horrible or Not Horrible.
As I see it, Stanford has chances for two more moral victories this year, against the Beavers and Irish, with Cal being no chance for moral victory.
Is moral victory against Beavers holding them to 31 or less? Losing by no more than 14? Scoring at least 24?

I like your post, jogged a nerve in me.
Like you I generally think moral victories is a bunch of hooey.
Except in this case. This case being this (new) Coach and this greatly depleted and cobbled together roster.
So yes I think Arizona in hindsight is a moral victory, partly because I didn't appreciate at the time how good they've gotten.
And yes UDub a moral victory.
This matches something I said way back when, after Coach Shaw left, and new Coach TT signed up, and it was apparent that boatloads of veteran players were fleeing our shores.
I said then that if Coach TT can remain Competitive in a bunch of games, even if not getting a lot of wins, that would have achieved some kind of moral victory for this team for this season.
My loose definition of Competitive is going into the 4th quarter not being sure which team will pull out the win.
So I'd suggest if we ended up on the short end of a 24-21 game vs OSU (or something like that) it would be a moral victory.
And yes, where CAL is involved, there is no moral victory, only utmost spectacular and vindicating victory, or despicably crushing despair.
Hopefully CAL draws the despair straw this time.
