Unless you’ve played at that level or been a rock star,  I think it’s hard to imagine the rush one gets from having 80,000 people cheering wildly for you.  Add that it’s something that’s been a major part of his life since he was a young kid and it’s understandable why he holds on as long as possible.

And he's doing what he loves.  And he's gaining invaluable experience to coach, manage, commentate, or otherwise earn a living from football for decades to come.  And he's got heart.  Above all others, he's the one guy I'm still hoping has his true Rudy moment!  He sure deserves it.
