The crazy thing is that the Browns had already picked Gabriel in the third round.  So they took two QBs, on top of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and an injured Deshaun Watson (which, now would be a good time to cut bait), which seems like a bit of an overkill, but as you noted LOLBrowns.  They kind of need wide receivers and offensive linemen, so maybe they are just stocking up on QBs because they expect them to be injured.

"Come to Stanford, early playing time, major opponents, great instruction...or you could go to the back of the line at a football factory, stagnate, and become a UDFA...like Yurosek. If he'd stayed at Stanford, third round selection. He cost himself $6.5 million to leave Stanford and go to Georgia...and that's just the first three years. And btw...his degree is worth a lot less."

WSJ with a piece on just how unprecedented Sanders' drop was.  The lowest any draft analysis (and there are hundreds) had him was in the mid-50's ; he actually went 144th.

In that alternate universe you would need to add not needing/using Yurosek as a blocker to keep Daniels upright. You would also need to add a Daniels that was capable of not fixating on a primary receiver and running if he decided it wasn't there. You would also need a Daniels to be able to throw a check-down other than high, wide, or into the turf. You would also need a coaching staff that didn't decide to use Yurosek as a runner. Other than that, no problems :-).

One could add Shedeur's legal troubles with the Security Guard lawsuit. IMO there were plenty of personal behavior questions that didn't help. The bottom line of him being an "merely above-average QB" coupled with behavior questions was enough to scare off the teams that were initially suckered in by the hype.

IMO Yurosek's error was not that he left, but rather where he went. He needed to go someplace where he was a "fit" and probably would play. Georgia was not that. In 2024 Georgia ran the ball 56% of the time. The ability to block for the run was critical. That isn't Yurosek's strength. That alone undoubtedly kept him off the field. Georgia threw to the tight end 18% of the time. That isn't terrible. Oregon threw it to the tight end 23% of the time. Michigan threw to the tight end 42% of the time. Of course, Michigan also ran the ball 72% of the time. For Yurosek, there may not have been lots of good choices. There HAD to be better ones than Georgia.

Sure it was. Oscar Delp was already there. He is slightly bigger than Yurosek. He had already played two years at Georgia before the 2024 season. He played 13 games in 2022 and in 14 games in 2023. Lawson Luckie was also already there. He played in 7 games in 2023. Both players were more highly rated out of high school than Yurosek. Luckie arguably could already do everything Yurosek could. They are virtually the same size but Luckie had three years of eligibility available (in 2024) while Yurosek had one. Unless Yurosek was demonstrably better he wasn't going to get playing time. Both players played "a lot" despite the fact Bowers was clearly the number one tight end in both 2022 and 2023. They both had the advantage they knew the system. Yurosek would need to be demonstrably "better" to have any chance of playing time. That was clearly a bad bet going in.

Yurosek should have gone someplace where the incumbents were probably not as good as he was. Those places may not have been in the running for a national championship, but at least he could get on the field. That may have been hard to do and some risk may have been unavoidable.
