I mean, a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and down by 3 is literally everyone’s dream.  Short of it being in the rubber game of the college World Series, it is unbelievable. OMG....  After reading some stressful posts in another thread in the Cardboard, I looked at this thread and saw the reports of the meltdown.  It pretty much felt like "Another bad one?"

And then to see posts about the game turning around brought a cheer to my heart.
We Stanford fans are spoiled rotten by how often how well the Stanford teams play.

I will always love all Stanford teams, and I'm especially fond of this exceptional group of softball players and their coaches. Their hitting prowess has grown each year and is so fun to watch, although their pitching woes are maddening. Love them still, but I confess that after their meltdown at the top of the 7th last night against FSU, I was ready to abandon a Stanford sports game before it was over for the first time in my life.  It felt like deja vu from the Duke game a few weeks ago when the pitching staff blew a commanding lead, giving up 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I'm glad I stuck with the FSU game last night, as we were all rewarded with a comeback for the ages against a super-strong FSU team. Due to their profound weakness in pitching, I have low expectations for this team in the postseason, but I still love their spirit, and I'll watch every game I can, hoping that the pitching can improve somehow. I think Allister has built a program, and if she can just get AND KEEP another strong ace pitcher, I hope this program can become a dynasty.

It will be difficult for Stanford to regain competitiveness in revenue sports while attempting to play in the East Coast ACC especially since Stanford administration has proven unwilling to embrace the incoming upperclassmen and graduate transfers that are needed to compete in the NIL era, but we can at least have a shot to be competitive in non-revenue sports since transfers in those sports are not as prevalent or crucial, at least for now. Losing Canady was the glaring exception. Oh, what could have been if we could have kept her?  Oh well...

FSU was 36-4 entering this series. Granted their four losses were against top ten teams, but they did beat UCLA in February and were 12-0 in conference with sweeps of Syracuse, Cal, Clemson and Notre Dame.

This was a h.uge weekend for Stanford softball. Besides the sweep of FSU, it looks like P Alyssa Houston is back and getting stronger.

The top four seeds in the ACC conference tournament get byes into the quarterfinals. At 12-6, Stanford is currently in 5th place with two more series: next weekend at home vs NC State (5-8) and the weekend following at home at Cal (3-14). Yes, you read that correctly. Cal is playing at Stanford Stadium as the home team because Cal's stadium is under renovation.

And if you live in the Fresno area you can catch Stanford at Fresno State this Wednesday afternoon.

Caught bits and pieces of the games while I was doing work around the house. One of the announcers said that Stanford has a shot at a top 16 seed for the NCAA tournament. The good news is that the Cardinal had a #16 RPI entering the Santa Clara game. The bad news is that Santa Clara's RIP was #157 and Stanford has home games remaining vs Cal x 3 (#133 RPI and tied for last in the ACC), Pacific (#215) and UC Davis (#163). Stanford could sweep those games and see its RPI go down?

At the moment, Stanford is in 4th place in the ACC but tied in losses with 5th-place Va Tech. Va Tech has series remaining vs 9th-place North Carolina and @ 13th-place Syracuse. I have no idea how the tiebreaker would work if Stanford and Va Tech finish tied in the conference standings--they did not play each other during the regular season--but the top four seeds get first-round byes in the conference tournament, so it matters. (If the stars align perfectly, Stanford could finish as high as second.)
