Edit Reason: Assuming you meant Lizzy Andrew, not Ella Andrews
)
I only watched the back half of the second set, which was the most competitive of the three sets (we won 25-23), and mostly what I saw was a lot of out of system plays, with bad passes leading to bad sets leading to weak hits or even free balls. Harvey and Andrew had some nice swings, though Andrew also uncharacteristically got stuffed on one swing. Virginia Tech was weak. Looks like the other two sets were blowouts and the box score shows that we even got to empty the bench.
Glad this team has some games against softer oppposition to right itself. Right now I’m hoping it makes it out of the the first week end.

I have been following volleyball at Stanford now for ten years. I have sensed the whole college sport system is losing its role in education. The Stanford teams have been real and stable year to year. They smile and support each other. I like watching the sport. Less physical and more teamwork. Sometimes lately we seem more like trolls than fans.

Well, we look a little better tonight. Hambly seems to have shuffled the lineup.

Can somebody please explain to me why this team has so many problems in the second set?

In the first set Harvey with two nice tip coverages in one rally.
Etzler has put on a lot of upper body muscle mass since coming to Stanford. Tyler Friedrich is the best in the business.
I think Demaria playing front row only could work out.

Thanks, I suspected it would happen. I expect Ipar to play a few years professionally and then start a career in her chosen field, probably in the US if visas can be worked out. Her mother posted a number of times about all the opportunities for women in the US compared to Ipar's home country.
I posted the info about the three players returning on another message board. I'm thinking of copying the Spears iconic phrase and changing it to "Leave Julia alone". She is getting a lot of heat for one tiktok post when she was tired after the Pitt match.

Very unusual stat line for this team. brobdingnagian game for the outside hitters - Blyashov hit over .600 and Demaria at .500. In contrast, Andrew was only ok in the middle at .292. Serving has also suddenly had a large reduction in errors the last 2 matches while still being effective. Only 5 in this match. We have done that in single sets regularly this year.

I agree the service errors have come down significantly recently.
Last 3 games
Virginia: 5 errors
Virginia Tech: 8 errors
Pitt: 4 errors

Yeah, didn't get to see this one, but clearly Virginia had no answer for Blyashov. 18 kills on .607 hitting over 3 sets meant that fully 1/4 of points ended on a Blyashov kill. That's unheard of at this level. Andrew had a more pedestrian hitting percentage (at .292), which was hurt by 3 hitting errors. Ten kills over 3 sets is pretty good for a middle, and .292 is not bad; we're just used to seeing her hit in the 300's. The one that stood out to me was Harvey hitting .130, which is bad given the opponent, but I think Harvey has been up and down all season. She'll have dominant games and some games will disappear. I'd rather she bring it when we need it. Andrews only had 4 kills but was perfect. Overall, aside from the closer-than-it-should-have-been second set, not much to complain about, and nice to see Demaria with a solid game while Kurt is recovering.

There was a discussion on another board that these three plus Burgess and Larkin would bring the roster to 20 in 2027 if no one left after 2026. Does anyone know with certainty whether there are one or two DSAs. Does anyone know if Koko will be leaving as this is her fourth year (although still eligible for one more year)?
My speculation there is only one DSA. It seemed like the only reason there was room for Larkin on the roster was because Ireland Real decided on Texas.
