You admittedly offered the caveat that you don't know how cosmopolitan a place like Sioux Falls is, and admittedly it cannot easily be compared to San Francisco. However, you are tiptoeing along the precipice of full on condescension to suggest that students in flyover country are less able to select interesting majors. I'll bet over half of South Dakota has access to the internet, although probably only through telephone modems.
