It often strikes me how provincial Stanford grads in general and those who live in the Bay Area can be.

I don't know about Stanford grads per se but having grown up in the Bay Area, I have noticed this.  I'm a city boy through and through, but I do have an appreciation for parts of the country where folks live more rural lifestyles.  I often prickle when hearing how some of my friends speak about places that aren't large coastal cities, and how arrogantly they speak of California, the Bay Area in particular.
