Somehow I've got this feeling that if all Stanford recruits were required to live up to the grammar standards promulgated by the CardBoard Grammar Police we wouldn't have much of a class.

Agreed. Are we really going to be evaluate the grammar of 15-17 year old kids who have only been familiar with certain regional speaking styles? It was an interview not a dissertation.

My freshman year, I read one of the most beautifully written papers I had ever seen by someone who is a dear friend of mine to this day (we'll be meeting up for Big Game this year). He was a master of the written word! Eloquence, clarity, and correct grammar that reflected acceptable conventions. You would have never guessed he was such an incredible writer simply by speaking with him though; "Whaz up, holmes?" "Naw, dude, No!" were a few of his common phrases and his spoken grammar was lacking. He reeled in nothing but As on written assignments...and English was his second language. Later he revealed that he had only known private and prep school education in Mexico that prepared his English writing style.

Let's not be so quick to judge our prospects in this way. It has an air of superiority with the sense of looking down one's nose. Robertson reports a 3.8 GPA, thus he is on the Stanford recruiting radar.
