Long plays both WR and DB at an elite level, and some other schools were recruiting him as a WR, but all the posts here seem to be assuming that he'll be a DB at Stanford. Is there a strong indication that Stanford is thinking of him just as a DB?
I think you need to subscribe to Rivals for info like that.

Or he could read up in this thread (I believe it is on page 22):

Nice write-up on Long:

Officially an insider post, but it looks like most of the stuff is above the fold, so to speak.

How he fits: Long is a much more explosive player than what Stanford fans have seen from the Cardinal in recent years. He adds much needed speed to the skill corps. We would not be surprised to see him make a quick impact as a return man early. Can play slot, outside, nickel and corner on the perimeter. Is comfortable in many roles and particularly confident on defense. Return game promise here as well.
I wonder if he plays WR or DB for us. On the one hand, we seem to have a better pipeline at DB; on the other, most people are more excited about him as a defensive back. This is the sort of problem that I like having.

We initially offered Long as a WR; a minority of teams did as well. (LSU, to take one example.) But Long's preference appears to be at DB. I suppose it's possible we could try using him two ways.
