The best test is, as a fan I have little idea what is coming next. As opposed to previous years, where I could probably guess who which group of RBs or WRs would get the ball on the next play. And if I could guess, the opponent could too. Look at the stats, we had multiple passes to 6 receivers. And between C-Mac and Barry, we always have someone with fresh legs who could explode, and Wright has really moved into this place at the goal line guy.
On the other hand, lately we've been running 70% of the time. McCaffrey is getting a far larger share of the carries than anyone did last year. Everybody knows whose getting the ball when Wright comes in (and perhaps others). Last year we completed passes to more receivers generally (vs OSU 10 players caught passes in 2014 / 6 in 2015, etc. - this scales with the number of passes which is way down lately).
I think the role of unpredictability in the current success of the offense over last year has been vastly overstated.

I think Shaw is correct. They key isn't which play when it's the way the play is executed.

Seems much more unpredictable to me. For one thing, where and how we are running has changed and the personnel at the snap of any play does not give away the play nearly to the degree it did last year. Even Wright's goal line and short yardage plays are not uniform in how they are blocked or the focus of the attack. But mixing in Love and several different varieties of the Wildcat do much to create uncertainty on the other side of the line. Plus, the mix of our pass/run play selection seems more variable. I feel that we have more balance in the weaponry available and have thusfar done just enough with each set of weapons to plant them firmly in the opposition's mind.
