Latest on Long.

Wonder if the position issue is really such a big deal to him.
My first thought was: could be concern about the position, could be some issue with admissions, or could be a little bit of both. Hopefully it is only admissions and Long gets the score he needs on his SAT, or does the work in the classroom, that leads to the offer and we are safe with him. He would be a great addition to the program.

Long is better suited to corner than to WR. He's gotten rave reviews in all the combines at corner and he was selected to the USAAB at that position. I'm sure that Stanford's coaches understand that as well as Long does, and that Stanford's coaches say they are willing to grant Long's request to play exclusively at corner.Â
The issue, which isn't easy to fix immediately enough for Long's comfort, is that Stanford has a bit of a hole at WR and a lot of depth at DB. Nevertheless, the staff is trustworthy when it says that Long will play corner. Fanaika would have been very valuable at NT, but he's probably better suited to OG, and the staff kept him there at a cost to the team this year. The two contributors who changed positions (Lloyd and Whitfield) did so at their own request and would not have been nearly as successful at their original positions. To the best of my recollection, the other guys who have moved are guys who probably aren't good enough to make a difference at any position.
The problem is that the coaches can say that they like Long at corner until their faces turn blue, but Long, for whatever reason, may not yet feel comfort about that statement. Ultimately, however, I think Long will get the comfort he wants for two reasons. First, I do think Stanford will land one or more WRs in this class. Second, I think Long will talk with the current players and understand that Shaw and his staff are really good about honoring players' requests and looking out for the player's best interest, even to the team's potential detriment. See, e.g. Shittu burning his redshirt; various graduate transfers getting Shaw's blessing.Â
Thus, I agree with others that Long will come if the SAT score is what he hopes.
