There are lots of ways to read the statement in the interview.  He could have been waiting on November results to decide whether another re-take was necessary.  He could be deciding between SAT and ACT.  I watch actions more than words.  Stewart has flown cross-country to Stanford three times, including this last weekend, all on his own dime.  Those aren't the actions of someone who thinks that Stanford is not a realistic option or of someone who would choose not to take a 3 hour exam to get admitted.  Based on his actions, I completely discount the hedging in the Drukarev article.  He may not end up in the class, but it won't be for lack of effort or interest.
