If you compare to the rest of the Pac-12, the new salary is pretty much in line with how the 59ers finished this year.  Three teams finished with worse conference records this year, and two with the same conference record (4-5).  And four coaches have lower salaries.  So if this year was typical, the salary is pretty reasonable.

That said, I think the 59ers will be worse next year (and probably on average in the future) than this year.  If so, then the new salary is too high.
