I assume the Vandy offer is for 2016. I wouldn't blame the guy for grabbing it.  It is a lot to ask someone to go to high school for another year for a shot at attending Stanford as it still wouldn't be guaranteed.

Yep.  Per a publicly available interview on Scout (http://www.scout.com/college/football/re...y-mcelwain), it's for the Class of 2016.  And I agree with you that it has to be awfully tempting.  He doesn't have to go to prep school for a year with no guarantee of Stanford at the end of the rainbow (we don't think, at least--I'm speaking with no knowledge of exactly what transpired between Admissions and Bailey), he gets to stay in the Southeast, his parents go from being able to watch Bailey on TV to being able to watch Bailey in person (Nashville is about a 3-hour drive from his high school, and many other SEC schools are within driving distance), he still gets a great education, and he gets to play SEC football.  Southerners on this board would know more, but if a kid wanted to stay in the Southeast ultimately, I could see being part of the Vandy alumni network being just as valuable, if not more so, then the Stanford alumni network.

just as it did between Tara and the Low APR U women's hoops coach re that New Zealand girl who wound up at Low APR U after Stanford admissions left her high and dry

You know, I was wondering about this, too, particularly given that fullback and returning LDS missionary Houston Heimuli would also be part of our Class of 2017, and taking two fullbacks in what's already going to be a pretty small class seems like a stretch.  (That assumes Bailey would stick at fullback rather than playing ILB, at which he is also very good.)  I don't believe for a second that Shaw would ever pull an offer from Bailey to be a part of our 2017 class, but I could see him trying to find him a good landing spot at another school if things weren't certain to work out here, either academically or football-wise.
