4. Does anyone see/appreciate the fallout of FUGLY games such as this? Specifically, during the game (per OSU game thread), you had die-hard Stanford fans tuning out (which I did - why would I subject myself to that?). Also during the game, I had a friend from Sacto advise me that he was canceling his plans to come to the UW game because he was so upset with what he was watching (I hope he reconsiders). Other posters said they were "emotionally detached" from the game - almost as a defense mechanism to the horror they were watching. These impacts are real - hard to quantify, but real. I think a safe conclusion is that games such as this - even with the escape W - do not help (and actually hurt) the program by undermining strength of fan support.
Agree.
Who would want to be associated with Shaw as a COACH?
How embarrassing!

Tell me that was sarcasm.Â

Let's be honest: a Stanford defender ripping off an Oregon State player's helmet on fourth down is not a good look. If Shaw hasn't put his foot down on that by now, there is something wrong.
All that said, I'm nowhere close to throwing out the baby with a few fluid ounces of bathwater.

I agree that the actions of the defender did not reflect well, and of course, it is ultimately up to Shaw to keep his players focused and under control, which is something he is normally does well. I don't think that was teejers' and PAsportsfan's complaint (if the latter wasn't being sarcastic) complaint. I think they were noting that the offense stank (and, again, if PASportsfan was not being sarcastic) that nobody would want to be associated with any coach who would produce such a stinker.
