The second half was not a disaster, as we outscored them 39-29, as they stepped off the gas pedal and we gained some composure.
I think the game was a learning experience and especially, it being the second game of the season, we can use it as the bar to aspire to. Now, UConn is at another level, but if we can work towards that, even if it's not ultimately attainable this season, we have a benchmark for this year and beyond.
Just looking at the box score, Carrington was our only double digit scorer, but if she backs this up through even better performances against lesser opponents (which when compared to UConn is pretty much everyone), she can give Tara 3 pieces to build the lineup around (DiJonai, Brit, Alanna).
Marta still hasn't shed that unwillingness to shoot, just 1 field goal attempt -- a made 3. Kiana acquitted her decently well, but I didn't see anything remarkable from Anna. If Kiana can gain some experience in the softer part of the schedule and run the offense, Marta might see less playing time.
As for the 5, that's still very much open. Kaylee still hasn't progressed much around the basket on the offensive end, we haven't seen much from Nadia. Dodson didn't get much playing time, but I would like to see how well she does against Riverside and Bakersfield this week.
Come later this season, I could see a starting lineup of Kiana, DiJonai, Brit, Alanna and Maya potentially.
