I guess the real question is, why on Earth is ND scheduling Stanford anymore?!  We booted them from the CFP in 2015, and we've basically had their number for the last decade.  They usually have a hard enough schedule as it is.  They're a big money draw for us, but converse isn't true for them...

There's always the "end the year in California" thing, but they can get that with whoever. I think the real reason is that they get to pretend that they're our peer institution. I loved this from yesterday's "Why Your Team Sucks":

Johns Hopkins rivals Georgetown and Notre Dame for the gap between how impressed with itself it is and how unimpressed everyone else is by it.

I'm not familiar with Hopkins and Georgetown but boy do I love that description of Notre Dame.
