Just after he was hired, I had a Stanford football conversation with Buddy Teevens...for 45 minutes.  And as much as I enjoyed it, I thought "he really shouldn't be speaking with the likes of me for 45 minutes."

On the other end of the spectrum, I met Wlat Harris.  A rude individual, with fresh hubris from his 52-44 Pitt record where he had two ranked teams in eight years.

Wlat may have been a jerk, but he did a pretty decent job of taking a Pitt team that had been in the doldrums and ultimately getting them in a BCS game.
That's why I had hopes for him at Stanford, but things obviously didn't work out.

Buddy was an affable guy who was out of his league coaching a team at Stanford's level. He's where he ought to be now, coaching in a low key environment where it's nice if you win, but nobody gets too excited if you don't. I mean, after all, it's just a game.
