I agree with all the analysis that points to Sniezek's offensive weakness. BosCard's analysis of what went wrong last year is exactly right. We do have some offensive improvements beyond the point guard swap, however:
Maya and Nadia's improvement means that we have a much better offensive player at the 5 than we did last year.
Alanna is hitting treys even better than last year, meaning we have a more effective stretch 4 than a year ago.
Lexie at the three is a much better three point shooter, so far, than McPhee.
If Kianna plays the 2 like last year, she is if anything better than a year ago from long range.
And so...putting Sniezek back at point when there are three other very effective three point shooters on the court would not be quite as problematic as a year ago. But like the rest of you I'll hope for the continued development on both offense and defense of Brown and Wilson. If Brown comes on strong with both offense and defense and begins to master the offense, it would make the decision pretty simple.
The point guard does not have an outsized role in the Princeton when the other team is playing man, since 4 of the players are constantly shuffling, any of the four could be dishing out the assist. We've already seen that with wings getting more assists than guards, for example. The point guard becomes more critical when the other team is playing zone and we leave the Princeton and go to our zone-breaking offense. That is where I think Brown has a lot of potential. Her ability to penetrate half-way and launch and make those teardrop shots from in close is excellent for zone-breaking. She is just 1/5 so far from three point range, though, so the jury is still out on her long range potential at the college level. Anna Wilson so far is 2/11. It is still early, though. We will know a lot more after 4 away games leading in to Baylor.
