That's somewhat misleading. Parole eligibility occurs after you've served one-third of the sentence, or six months. It might also be a maximum of 18 months. Journalists almost never get that right.

Vandemoer will not be eligible for parole. He can reduce his sentence by 15% with good behavior. So he will serve 15+ months.
Considering what Manafort got, 18 months for this is egrigious! I don't condone it, but it appears the coach received no money. Lesser time plus a fine would seem more fitting. Now I think Manafort should be in jail for far longer, but he isn't at the moment.
