That Massey rating, in this field, should be about a 13 seed.
The other 15 seeds: Mercer (127, playing Iowa); Towson (133, playing UConn); Portland State (106, playing Oregon).
14 seeds: Maine (88, playing NC State); New Mexico State (139, playing Iowa State); Fordham (81, playing Syracuse); Radford (123, playing Maryland).
13 seeds: FGCU (59, playing Miami); Boise State (54, playing Oregon State); Belmont (63, playing South Carolina); Wright State (70, playing Texas A&M).
12 seeds: Bucknell (77, playing Florida State); Rice (29, playing Marquette); Arkansas Little Rock (90, playing Gonzaga); UCF (32, playing Arizona State). Talk about variation in quality on one seed line - Marquette and Arizona State get screwed because the committee has problems seeding mid-majors. Both Rice and UCF should probably be on the 8-9 line (for reference, Cal is 31.) And two 12 seeds are rated below our 15 seed.
11 seeds: Quinnipiac (62, playing South Dakota State); Tennessee (45 , playing UCLA); Princeton (71, playing Kentucky); Missouri State (56, playing Depaul).
The NCAA's "bus before plane" rule really screws good mid-major teams that play near powers that host the first two rounds. UCF is underseeded and playing ASU because Miami is hosting as a #4 seed. Davis is underseeded because they can fill a spot at Maples.
So yes, Stanford is playing a more dangerous team than they should be. OTOH, BYU (44) and Auburn (38) are probably weaker than the other 7-10 combos: Drake-Missouri (26, 28); Texas-Indiana (22, 51); Rutgers-Buffalo comparable at 30-52.
