When they played them in Spokane they beat them by only 2 points with Stockton and Townsend both playing. Townsend tied the game on a 2 point jumper with 1:00 left, and BYU won when Zykera Rice (the blue haired player) committed a foul with 2 seconds left and Paisley Johnson converted 2 free throws. Obviously, it was a very tight game.(03-23-2019, 07:08 PM)81alum Wrote: They rather handily beat Gonzaga for the WCC league championship--that is probably the scariest fact about them. They also beat Gonzaga two other times in close games during the regular season.
Yes, BYU beat Gonzaga 3 times including by 14 in the WCC tournament finals, but the Zags did not have Laura Stockton or Jill Townsend in that game (their 2nd and 4th leading scorers). So take that result with a little caveat.
The Zags, incidentally, have advanced to play Oregon State in the 2nd round--with a pretty easy win over Little Rock. The only team they lost to this year other than BYU was Notre Dame. BYU somehow had their number.
