Honestly, I think this is a bit of a small numbers thing and that in due time we would basically have offenses and defenses that randomly fluctuated about a certain level.

Right, that's what I mean about it being stochastic. You wouldn't necessarily expect it to alternate the way that it has (2011 O better, 2012-2014 D better, 2015 O better, 2016/2017 more even) but the amount that we depend on seniors marinating in the system and developing into better players leaves us a bit more vulnerable to random turndowns (or ups) than the other programs that have as many 2010's wins as we do (which, believe it or not, is basically just the blue bloods).
