I think you forget how good he was. Catching has destroyed his bat – don’t know if it will come back. He’s an elite catcher defensively now. Far from it at the plate. (I find it almost painful to watch him hit now) But he is the best catcher of his generation and the mainstay of a three-time champion. He is a Hall of Famer

I think he gets in but I wouldn't vote for him.

Molina should make the HOF. He’s won some of those GG’s on rep. But he still has been an elite catcher for a decade.

The non-candidate that intrigues me is Bill Freehan.  Good, not great numbers. 200 HRs, only behind Berra and Bill Dickey for AL catchers.  Only led the league in getting HBP three times. But he was an 11-time All-Star, five time gold glove winner, finished in top 7 in MVP voting three times.  Held the career fielding percentage record, total chances and total putout records for catchers until 2002.  Isn't that the definition of a Hall of Famer?  Someone who is the best at their position while they were in the big leagues?

If you support Freehan, then how do you feel about Yadier Molina? He has 9 All-Star games, 9 Golden Gloves, leads all active catchers in caught-stealing pct., is often considered the best defensive catcher of his generation, and also can hit - five .300 seasons, a career .282 average, and 1,918 career hits.
