I'm with all those who say, "good for him." Were I a loved one of his, I'd have strongly encouraged him to retire a few years back. Were he on a team that prioritized protecting him, I might have sung a different tune. The guy has too much to live for to continue to put his head and body in peril every day for an organization that doesn't deserve him. Also, he's not a jock and nothing else. He's as smart as they come, has a promising career ahead of him in architecture (or whatever else he may choose to pursue), and has a wide range of interests and worldly pursuits. I'm ecstatic for him, as hard as this decision may have been for him.
