Stanford won on a last second FG, giving up 500 yards to a team that missed 2 FGs, and itself only had 350 yards in spite of having better players at pretty much every position on the field.
This game was to decide the worst team in the conference and Stanford came very close to losing. A win is a win, but some wins demonstrate more losing is coming.
It really bothered me to see all the chirping on this board last week claiming Stanford receivers can’t get open, the insinuation being they lack talent needed to be effective. The issue was they weren’t getting accurate throws, but even more than that, the routes have been super easy to defend. Oregon is better than Oregon State, but there were many more plays to be made against Oregon with a healthy QB. Passing schemes that put more stress on defenses and get receivers open are sorely needed.
And no good team gives up 21 4th quarter points, especially to the worst team in the conference. Y’all can whistle past the graveyard. I’m not. Stanford is a program in decline. A last second FG is all that stands in the way of being the worst team in the PAC-12. Another year without big changes and a FG will no longer be enough to stave off the cellar. Stanford is doing less with more, the hallmark of bad coaching.
There are so many issues, it’s hardly a surprise the program is in such a precarious position.
