I forwarded the story to my 85-year-old father who played football for Columbia in the 1950's.

They weren't any better back then.  The highlight of his football career might have been that as a senior he passed along his equipment to freshman (and future actor) Brian Dennehy who was the only guy on the team big enough to wear the pants.

I thought he'd like a traditional marching band, but he surprised me by saying he was going to send a letter to the A.D. to just let the kids play and do what they want.

Thanks, yes, my dad said Georgetown is barely more than a club team so it's no surprise that there are few fans on their side.

Columbia football's only bowl game is a 7-0 victory over Stanford in the 1933 Rose Bowl.

Believe me, I hear about this all the time.  It's the high point of the Columbia football program.  Whenever the topic comes up, my dad says "KF-79!" which was the play Columbia used to score the only touchdown of the game -- a naked reverse to the left by the tailback.
