Not quite accurate. Shaughnessy's Wow Boys in 1940 were undefeated and ranked 2nd in the AP poll before the bowl games. Stanford then beat Nebraska in the 1941 Rose Bowl. There were about a dozen different systems that declared national champions, and Stanford was named champion in several of them. There have been retroactive declarations that we were champions in 1940 too.
