This is a real interesting situation. Is the problem A) The players aren't giving the appropriate effort, B) the players aren't being "coached up" enough to do the right things, or C)  The players are just not good enough? Leach appears to believe it is A, the players effort, although that may just be window dressing. The fact the DC quit can't help but make one question the defensive coaching the players got both before and after that event. That lends support to B. Previous WSU teams played better defense, but it was both different coaches and different players.  To tell you the truth, I think it is C. Let's hope so. Possibly, it is all of the above.

Yeah, Wazzu's defense isn't very good.
However, neither was Colorado's.
So a lousy Coug defense doesn't reassure me much.
One thing I am very confident about is that Wazzu will put more than 16 points on the board.
So I hope the offense is primed for an Arizona like effort.

I watched most of the second half and it’s all of the above. Two of Wazzu defensive players looked particularly inept. #1 who I think was a DB was consistently late to the party on run support, arm tackling and taking wrong angles.  #13 who appeared to be an OLB (hard to tell positions in Wazzu’s non-existent D) was either lazy or just plain slow and literally just stood there while a ball carrier jab-stepped and Ronstadted him (just for you, Teejers!). I mean the guy didn’t even react to the jab-step and just stood there flat footed. I wish I had that on tape as I had never seen matador defense in football before.

And with no DC to hold these guys accountable you can bet their season is circling the drain.
