Having your program's rivalry game on Pac-12 Network is a very loud statement about what outside observers think about it. What is this 2, 3 years in a row?
Just 2... 2017 was on Fox.
but 2016 was on P12N so 3 of the last 4 will have been on P12N, not sure about 2015 and earlier
ADD: 3 of the last 5, 2015 was on ESPN
Sure, but this is misleading. Both schools have stated a strong preference for holding BIG Game in the early afternoon, if possible.
In the Pac-12 the only way teams get to play in the early afternoon are when they are on the Pac-12 Nets.
So the conference and its TV partners, are giving Stanford and Cal fans exactly what they've been asking for, an early afternoon kick-off.
Now, in classic Stanford fashion, there are complaints about getting assigned to the Pac-12 Nets. Ugh!
FWIW - This is also the board that goes on and on about kickoffs at 7PM or later, especially for games in November. The Pac-12 routinely offers one kickoff at Noon/1/1:30 on the Pac-12 Nets, a game at 4:30/5 on FS1/ESPN and then 2 or even 3 games at 6:30/7/7:30OPM on Pac-12/FS1/ESPN.
Want early afternoon? Then what you will get is the Pac-12 Net. Over the last few seasons I kept saying be careful what you wish for....now the college football gods have granted "our" wish.
In Novembers, Pac-12 After Sunset becomes the territory for those with decent chances at getting top tier bowl invitations.
I will start our new appeal to the football gods....in 2020 I wish that Stanford Football plays every game in November with kick-offs AFTER 4PM.
