texas a&m did the same thing to us in that unfortunate NCAA national semi-final.
She was not untouched--but it should have been a charging call on Holmes--not a blocking call on Fingall. That did change the momentum of the game.
You can see it on ESPN replay now, 4th quarter, just before 9:29.
Fingall was set up outside the restricted area, both feet planted, before Holmes began her move. Holmes runs baseline at her and bangs her left leg into Fingall's left leg before falling. She twisted midair and fell on her back, landing with an audible thud. I thought the injury must have been from the landing, but it could not have been. If she really did hurt her left ankle, it was because she essentially kicked it into Nadia on her way up. As she was carried off the floor she put no weight on that left leg.
It sure looks to me as if Nadia did everything right. If Holmes had crashed into her head-on instead of a glancing blow then I think the charge would have been really obvious.
I'm glad Holmes was not hurt. I am especially glad that Nadia was not reinjured from Holmes's out-of-control play.
i agree with you. i meant to imply nobody touched (pushed, tripped, slapped) her (not that she ran into nobody and not that she didn't land on the floor).
do you remember the same strategy from texas a&m? i do. when holmes went down, i said to my wife, "she'll be back in 5 minutes." fingall was limping late in the game. holmes was not limping, not taped.
not that i want her to be hurt. i just am skeptical of flopping and screaming to pull the refs and crowd on your side.
kiana was crushed by a texas player going for a loose ball, landed on her elbow, and did not scream to (imo) play the refs and crowd, or even complain about the lack of a foul call.
