A few years ago, the series “Everything is a Remix” analyzed the influences upon Star Wars.

In addition to the Westerns mentioned here (the scene where Han shot first takes inspiration from a similar scene in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly), there are homages to Flash Gordon, Akira Kurasawa’s films, and loads of World War II battle scenes, among others.  The short video is worth a watch.
