I'd mostly agree with you on the first point; certainly it wouldn't have the same impact on Stanford as it would on another school. It would help, though. (I'm of the opinion we need more full-time recruiting staff to identify prospects and get them on the radar sooner. Hell, I'd do it for free.)

Yes, all non-salary-capped sports are like this. Prime example is European soccer, but even the MLB is like this to an extent. It's why stories like Leicester City's miracle title season, the A's Moneyball revolution and 20-game win streak in 2002, or even G5 UCF's undefeated run are so special/impactful. They are rare for a reason.
