Always liked that guy, including when on his college tour of campuses for ESPN(?) back in the day, Forde had a beverage with a group of die hards (from another board) at the Dutch Goose.
P.S. The answer (or something that will go a long way toward rectification): cap on coaching salaries. Don't know why it should even be controversial. Any excess $$ saved by not paying coaches (handsomely, but maybe not ridiculously) gets poured back into the institutions' respective general funds.
So, all the schools get together [in the form of the NCAA, I presume] and decide that coaches' salaries are going to be capped?
Yeah, that doesn't sound like an antitrust and/or illegal employment action case waiting to happen... :-)
Congress can legislate whatever it wants. There is going to be a cap on coach salaries and perhaps other forms of spending on college sports because the issue is non-partisan. Moreover, college sports isn't a free market. Contracts mean something in free markets. They don't in college sports. The whole system will collapse on itself without proper oversight from government regulators.
I'd personally like to see coach unions that give the NCAA and its schools the opportunity to collectively bargain working terms and conditions.
