I feel frustrated that the genomes of the COVID-19 in earlier patients in Santa Clara county do not appear in the public GISAID database where this correlation was found. If it were found that Friday's patient's (Santa Clara #3) disease was similar to any of the earlier patients, or similar to any other US illness, it would be important for the public's understanding of whether the disease has been circulating, and so is wider spread than just 7 cases. Ditto for Santa Clara #5. Potentially the public health agencies are letting "recovered" patients go into the public too soon. (That is one hypothesis for Washington state; Santa Clara County has one recovered patient.)
