The Trump administration continues to overrule people who actually know what should be done (scientists):

Thought this site was apolitical, especially commenting on articles with sources such as this:

"The person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity did not have authorization to talk about the matter. The person did not have direct knowledge about why the decision to kill the language was made."

 (I'm guessing that Director's chain of command doesn't run through the White House, because the Surgeon General, whose chain of command does, said quite the opposite this morning: "Life can't stop."). 

I'm thankful my elderly relatives are (mostly) abiding by my admonitions and staying in for the next few weeks.

According to the article you linked, the Surgeon General's comment was based on a specific question: Should Presidential Candidates stop traveling? Context is important: he replied to that question specifically that "life can't stop." Interestingly, the article also sited Sanders saying that he's not stopping travel and is moving forward with his campaign, including holding rallies. Clearly Sanders thinks such travel and gatherings are a-okay, as he went on to say: “We will not endanger the health of anybody in this country,”

I've no idea what the right course of action is, however, there are always considerations on every side of every decision and ramifications of what's implemented.

Sanders is also wrong. Since I'm supposed to be apolitical here I won't call him an idiot. Any political candidate holding mass meetings now IS endangering lives. The Surgeon General is also wrong. But he's also a politician, basically. 

My comment that the administration is overruling scientists and that it is the wrong decision isn't political in any way. Trying to stop a pandemic is not an activity that should be left to the whims of politicians. The Chinese and the Saudis seem to be the only ones on earth willing to take the steps necessary to stop this. And I sure as heck don't like those in charge of those countries. 

We should have closed every school and daycare in the country 2 weeks ago. No one should be going to work unless it is an essential service. Otherwise, we are conceding that 2 million deaths this year is acceptable. The economy will go in the toilet, but we'll come out of it.
