My suggestion: I would create a low-cost government loan program to individuals. Up to one year deferral to commence repayment for all comers, up to three years deferral to those who lose their jobs because of coronavirus.
Kind of with Mick here. For as long as I can remember, public health agencies have been loudly trumpeting the thread of a global infectious pandemic. Companies that were vulnerable to the pandemic should have made contingency plans and/or taken out appropriate insurance for it. Investors and bondholders in such companies should have known the risk and either demanded a risk premium or demanded that company management mitigate the risk. The only thing that gives me pause is that the disruption on employees and, secondarily, the wider economy.
But would it be such a horrible thing if cruise lines were wiped out, and their assets (ships) sold for pennies on the dollar to someone who could resurrect them and run them efficiently, and maybe prepare for the next friggin pandemic?
