And in the meantime, the economic impact to the destination communities and those that depend upon the tourism? Places like Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico would take a serious, serious hit.

Fair enough.  That's why I had written, "The only thing that gives me pause is that the disruption on employees and, secondarily, the wider economy."  Still, whether it's this or the financial crisis bailouts (including the auto industry bailout) or the proposed bailout of frackers, I can't help wonder if there is an element of hostage-taking going on. Bail us out or there will be "consequences".  Maybe we should just help the affected communities directly instead?
