Sure. But at least the sources attributing it to Germany directly quote medical experts in Italy who have been analyzing the virus. That link has no direct attribution at all. I get that you want to push a particular narrative, but I don't think that game is worth the candle given how many ways this virus has criss-crossed the planet for the past few months. 

Regardless, the US seems to have had the virus just as long and we are much more fortunate, for whatever reason, than our friends in Italy.

Well for one thing, our population is 5 times the size of Italy's but spread over 30 times the geography, so we are much more disparate, which means transmission takes longer. We are also less reliant on public transportation and other high-density forms of transport. Finally, Italian culture is to kiss on the cheeks, even strangers, which of course is a very effective way to transmit SARS-COV-2. I suspect absent massive coordinated intervention at the federal, state, and local level, some of our urban areas like NYC will unfortunately be as affected as the worst affected areas of Italy when all is said and done.
