Here a a couple of links that allow one to get some details on the CDC test and what is actually in the test kit. Each "kit" provides the required materials for 1000 tests, subject to having 800 positive controls. The "ingredient" that Gavin Newsom seems to have been talking about is the Human Specimen Control (HSC) which the CDC indicates is required but not provided. They do provide instructions on how to make it. While having to make your own is a pain (and not optimal), any CLIA certified lab can do this. The much more serious initial problem with the defective materials in the test was legitimate. The complaint from the Governor about the required but not supplied HSC was, IMHO, completely bogus and very unhelpful. Testing should not be a p*****g contest. All parts of our government need to work toward the same goal, trying to fix the problem rather than fixing the blame at this point.
