It's something that works best if everyone does it. People need to get that altruistic message. Unfortunately not sure how well that moves behavior, so why I think requiring masking indoors or if unable to maintain distancing should be legally mandated. If we're going to try reopening without good test and trace, we will definitely need to do everything possible to keep Ro down to give us enough lead time to shut things down if necessary.
I personally just wear a bandana, and I don't really worry too much about touching it, when I'm out and about. It's mostly to trap my own respiratory droplets anyway.
At work I am very careful to only handle my mask by the loops or straps and I wash before and after touching when I store them.
