One of the known side effects of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine is a prolongation of the QT interval on ECG.  This prolongation puts people at risk with a cardiac arrhythmia known as torsades des pointes (or TdP), which can be fatal.  Now, we are seeing evidence that COVID-19 patients on chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have developed dangerous QT prolongations.
