Growing up, I remember on the nightly news, the anchor intoning the latest count of Vietnam War casualties each and every night. Then, while a student at Stanford, the number of days Americans had been held hostage in Iran. Maybe with social media, we're less influenced than we would be if it were still just the three networks but hard for me to imagine us all becoming desensitized with the unrelentingly growing toll.
