Playing 155 games in a 154 game season is a pretty nice trick.
Detroit's record was 70-84 -- 154 games.
I'm guessing the discrepancy is this -- Detroit and Washington played an 8-inning tie game in the second game of a doubleheader on Sept. 15. I'm guessing the game may have been called due to darkness. Apparently the stats counted for the players, but the result didn't count for the teams. The game must have been replayed in full -- the two teams played again on Sept. 16, Sept. 17, and a doubleheader on Sept. 18. That must be how Gehringer played in 155 games.
